BOOM Learning is by far my new favorite online platform! It provides flexibility and oh does it ever save me time. I don’t know about you, but these days my time is precious and I’m always looking for ways to make the most of it. Whether you are teaching face-to-face or virtually, BOOM cards are a life and time saver. They provide so many learning possibilities and opportunities for students, that paper materials can’t offer. Here’s a previous blog post I wrote about how to use boom learning! So why should you be using BOOM in your classroom? Let me tell you!
# 1: BOOM Learning is DIGITAL
This is a total no-brainer, but one of the reasons I love BOOM cards is due to their digital flexibility. This school year is so uncertain. You may never know from day to day if you will be teaching in your classroom or if you will be pivoting to virtual. Because BOOM cards are digital, I can use them in both places. When I plan lessons using BOOM, I can rest knowing that whether I’m teaching at school or at home the BOOM activity can still be a part of my lesson. With a device, BOOM account and Internet connection they can be used anywhere. Plus, they are so easy for students to navigate and offer a familiar format each time.
# 2 Differentiated Activities
BOOM learning decks have digital task cards that come in multiple subjects for students to access. You can assign ELA, Phonics, Math, Spelling, Science, and even Social Studies BOOM Cards to students. And because each student learns differently and at different skill levels, each student can be assigned a different learning deck. This is a great opportunity to provide your students with the individualized learning that they need. If I have a certain deck idea in mind and can’t locate what I need, I can create a special activity unique to my students. How great is that?! BOOM Learning even offers digital comprehension passages! Check it out here
# 3 Boom Learning Provides Automatic and Instant Feedback
When students play decks that are primarily multiple-choice questions, they receive immediate feedback. On most questions, students will know right away if they are successful or not. They will also receive additional attempts to choose the correct answer. This is especially great when students are using BOOM learning during independent work. Students can grow and learn areas where they are strong and can use some improvement.
Boom Learning Tracks Student Data
A BOOM learning deck can be assigned using FastPlay or HyperLink Play. When given the second option, you as the teacher have more control over your students’ learning. (I highly recommend playing using this method). BOOM Learning allows you to track students’ progress and monitor their results. When students realize you can track and monitor their progress, this creates a level of accountability that might not be there using FastPlay. BOOM decks are great ways to check a student’s skill level or understanding, especially before a test or assessment.
Multiple Uses
I love that BOOM Learning decks can meet a variety of needs I have in the classroom. I can assign decks for students to complete during small groups, independent work, and teacher-led instruction. Cards can also be used for a more “informal” assessment and even homework. Because of the game-like feel, students rarely feel like they are “working. BOOM cards can be assigned whether students are learning in class or online. This is perfect for the uncertainty each day brings.
