I am officially in summer mode. Being off of school during the summer gives me more time to do what I love- swimming, spending time with my family and friends, cooking, reading, working out, house projects…and making resources for teachers to use in their classrooms! I am super excited to share with you a new resource that I have been working on the past few months- Guided Reading Passages and Comprehension Questions.
I wrote these guided reading passages and created these comprehension worksheets to accompany the articles because I saw the need for this type of resource for my own students. I needed high-quality, engaging reading passages that came with comprehension questions which required my students to go back to the text and use textual evidence to find the answer.
I also wanted engaging, non-fiction articles that tied in social studies and science content, so that I could easily integrate it into my English Language Arts block. My social studies and science topics have me teaching about animal classifications, animal habitats, ocean animals in their habitat, influential leaders who have shaped our world, and famous African Americans.
My Third Grade Guided Reading Passages and Comprehension Questions Bundle is a complete bundle. There are 42 different reading passages and 2 pages of comprehension questions for EACH article.
These engaging articles are PERFECT for teaching text features in informational text.
If you are looking for a resource with excellent content articles about the engaging topics, non-fiction text features, and can be used in a variety of different activities, then this is for you! These articles can be used as part of your guided reading, reader’s workshop, test prep, independent reading, even homework! These articles are the perfect way to incorporate social studies content into English Language Arts!

I am new second grade reading teacher. I would love to implement readers workshop but I have do not have a vast library of books. We are departmentalized and I have three classes. How many books do I need to have to make this successful?
Hello Aliza,
Thanks for your message. In full disclosure, a thriving classroom library full of a plethora of books is the heart of a successful reading workshop. HOWEVER, there are definitely ways you can adapt. For example, have you heard of http://www.getepic.com This is a phenomenal (and FREE!) website with an abundance of different books- so many authors, picture books, chapter books, etc. If your students have access to Chromebooks or laptops, this is one way that you can provide a vast amount of books. I hope this suggestion works!
