Today was a sad day, just like it has been since the tragedy occurred last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School. You can just “feel” the heaviness from everyone’s heart. Security in our school and district have been heightened- along with our staff’s stress levels. The children came into school today with a lot of information and questions. And yet, through all of this, the one thing that we can continue to do is to teach our students that KINDNESS matters and KINDNESS will overcome all evil. “Why are we here? What gives our lives purpose?” were the words of our President at the Memorial last night. He even talked about Acts of Kindness and that we can’t go wrong when kindness is in our motives. With that in mind, Nicole and I are now more than ever committed to our Random Acts of Kindness! If you have read our blog for some time now, you will know that I am a huge animal lover! When I saw this posted at my local animal shelter, I immediately knew what my random act of kindness would be! Ask and you shall receive!!! I went to Target and stocked up with as much cat litter that my cart could hold! (I must say, I did get a few looks with all that cat litter in my cart!!!) My golden retriever, Nugget, and I packed up the car and drove over to the human society this weekend to drop off the goodies. This little guy, TUCK!!!, greeted us at the front door of the Humane Society. He has been there since August, we no luck of finding a forever home. (Not yet!!!) Tuck was more than willing to help us bring the bones to the supply shelves!! After talking with the volunteers ((((BLESS THEIR HEART!!!))))) we took a walk around the shelter.Soooo precious!! I cried. And cried. And cried!!! The cats and dogs are just so precious it breaks my heart to see them in cages and crates! I wanted to take each and every one of them home with me.Anybody in the Chicagoland area looking for a best friend? Email us and we would love to help you meet a furry friend for the holiday season!!!Do you volunteer your time at any animal shelters? How do you give back? We would love to hear from you!!!!

I love your blog and your enthusiasm for kindness. It has been so much fun to read and think differently about the way I prepare my students for the holidays. I live in Naperville too!
