What’s Included in this Resource:
1. Habitat Journal- There is a cover page (one black and white, one color option) and one page for each of the following habitats: grasslands, wetlands, temperate forests, polar regions, tropical rainforests, and oceans. As the students learn about each habitat, they write the definition, characteristics and different animals that live there. An answer key is included for the each habitat in the journal.
2. Habitats on World Map- This world map is one page of the different habitats and their location. This map is in color, with different colors representing the different habitats.
3 .Introduction to Habitats- This two page article teaches an overview of the different habitats, information about habitats in danger, and what kids can do to help.
4. Grasslands Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions- There is a two page article that teaches about the grasslands. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
5. Wetlands Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions-
There is a two page article that teaches about the wetlands. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
6. Temperate Forest Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions- There is a two page article that teaches about the temperate forests. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
7. Polar Regions Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions- There is a two page article that teaches about the Polar Regions. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
8. Tropical Rainforest Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions- There is a two page article that teaches about the tropical rainforest. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
9. Ocean Non-Fiction reading passage and comprehension questions- There is a two page article that teaches about the ocean. There are two pages of comprehension checks that students must find text evidence from the article to support their answer.
10. Animal Habitat Sort- There are images of 32 different animals that students color, cut out, and sort according to its habitat. I also created a color copy of the animals, so that you can use it as an example to show your students.
11. Color Posters Posters- There is a real-life photograph (in color) of each habitat. These are beautiful photographs that can be printed and displayed on your board as you teach about the different habitats.
12. Cooperative Group Habitat Project- As a closing to the unit, you may choose to have your students do a cooperative group project. Each group researches a habitat and the animals that live there, characteristics, where the habitat is located, and additional fascinating facts. Students display their information on butcher paper and present to the class.
