Addition Task Cards: Adding with Expanded Form
I made this file out of necessity for my own students, who needed to practice adding numbers by using expanded form. Decomposing numbers, or showing the value of each digit, is an important strategy to teach young mathematicians.

I like to post these addition problems in different areas of the classroom. My students “roam the classroom” to answer each addition problem as I work with a group of students or walk around to assist students.

File includes 28 task cards, an answer key, and an anchor chart to display for how to use expanded for to add.

Specific standard addressed:
CCSS.Math.Content.3.NBT.A.2
Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Fractions Game

Let’s get ready to play some basketball!!! All you need for this lesson: plastic cups, masking tape, and plastic balls. Or, you can just crumble up paper and make your own basketballs. Students record the amount of basket made/missed and then write the fraction. The biggest fraction is the winner!

The players will then rotate around the classroom and visit the different fractions task cards.

This ***Common Core Aligned*** file includes:
1. Directions for setting up the b-ball game
2. A student recording sheet (flip book) to keep score
3. 32 colorful fraction task cards
4. Recording sheet and answer key for the task cards
