Your little chefs will be serving up fractions any way they like it….all while incorporating math and writing skills! The focus of this lesson is to use art to teach fraction, decimal, and percent equivalents.

Prior to teaching this lesson, I like to read the story, Fractions, Decimals, and Percents by David Adler. Once my students have a solid understanding about how to change a fraction into a decimal and a percent, they are ready for this activity! Students choose their ingredients for their own personal pizza and find the fraction, decimal, percent equivalents.

Once their pizza is created, the little chefs then start their expository writing and write step by step directions for creating a fraction pizza.

File includes colorful learning target posters that can be printed for a bulletin board or projected onto your SmartBoard, directions, a variety of pizza ingredients that are in color and black/white, and student reproducibles.

Want a creative and fun way to wrap up your unit on fractions? Host a fashion fraction fashion show! Students turn into models and dress up to represent fractions with their clothing and accessories. Models walk down the runway and the audience participate by writing the fraction represented.

This resource builds on your students natural love of dramatic play and animals. Students transform into pet owners and official pet vets!

Pet owners bring in their *stuffed* animals into school for a fun filled, hands-on, interactive paw-ty! A math measurement paw-ty, that is!!!

Pet owners will use their stuffed animal to experience the following measurement stations:

Measuring My Pet: Using a ruler to investigate the length of the animal’s paws, tail, tummy, etc. Pet owners will also investigate non-standard units of measure with this station. File includes resources about measuring to the nearest half and quarter inch.

Puppy Chow: Pet owners will have a paw-riffic time measuring out the ingredients for this yummy recipe and investigate capacity.

Water Spot: Pet owners prepare water for their pet (capacity)

Guided Math and Math Workshop 101– If you are looking for ideas and strategies for how to implement guided math and math workshop into your primary classroom, this is the Ultimate Math Resource for you!
