Random Act of Kindness Freebie! Snowman Surprise

Do you want to encourage your students to remember the REASON for this SEASON?

Encourage your students to participate in a random act of kindness for another class in your school. They will make a snowman surprise craft and write a sweet little letter to go with it! Then, when the other class is gone for the day, your students will go and deliver the goodies in their classroom!

Staff and Student Appreciation

What is the reason for this holiday season? Showing appreciation for all the hard working staff members (and students!) in our school! In this resource, students SURPRISE and shower the staff members in their school with letters of appreciation. The resource includes cover pages with clip art representing different staff members (custodian, secretary, nurse, social worker, principal, ect.) in a school setting, both in color and black and white. Your students will LOOOVE delivering these sweet messages of appreciation and your co-workers will LOOOVE receiving them!

There are also several templates for students to write their letter of appreciation, to each other! This activity, I call Student Surprise, is a great writing activity to do in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Every day, a new student is randomly chosen to to write about. The student that is randomly chosen colors the cover page of their book while the rest of the class writes a friendly letter to the student. In the letter, the students write about why the child is special and a gift to our classroom. This makes the PERFECT gift to give to your students- as they will be sure to treasure this!

Social and Emotional Learning: Cooperative Group Kindness Skits!

Are you looking for a way to teach empathy and kindness, while addressing Social and Emotional Learning Standards, as well and the Speaking and Listening standards?

Students work in cooperative groups to act out one of the scenarios presented to them- a great way to incorporate character education and common core! (Speaking and Listening Standards)

There are so many other ways to use the scenarios presented in this file. These scenarios can also be used for:
1. Teaching the Social and Emotional Learning Standards

2. Teaching the expectations/rules at the beginning of a new school year

3. Writing prompts- students can write and reflect as part of their writing workshop or “seat work” at the beginning of the day

4. Character education

Are you inspired to teach your students about the true meaning of the holiday season- the importance of kindness and service towards others?

I created the unit because the group of students I have this year really need explicit examples of kindness in action. I wanted to create meaningful and authentic lessons so my students could experience the benefits from small and simple acts of kindness. I was absolutely amazed with how excited my group of students were to perform these acts of kindness!
