I like to use this activity right before our winter holiday party, when my students are anxiously anticipating the room parents to come in and start the festivities, and they are too excited for me to teach a lesson. This is the perfect activity to get your kids up and movin’ and groovin’ around the classroom!

***This file does not specifically mention Christmas, nor does it have questions about Santa. Instead, the questions are open ended and worded with the title “winter holiday.”****

Radom Acts of Kindness with Secret Student Santas!

Why let the adults have all the fun with playing Secret Santa this season? Let your students turn into Santas and perform acts of kindness for their peers…all in secrecy!!!! Students learn about positive character traits and end this lesson with a cute and creative art project.

Social and Emotional Learning: Cooperative Group Kindness Skits!

Are you looking for a way to teach empathy and kindness, while addressing Social and Emotional Learning Standards, as well and the Speaking and Listening standards?

Students work in cooperative groups to act out one of the scenarios presented to them- a great way to incorporate character education and common core! (Speaking and Listening Standards)

There are so many other ways to use the scenarios presented in this file. These scenarios can also be used for:
1. Teaching the Social and Emotional Learning Standards

2. Teaching the expectations/rules at the beginning of a new school year

3. Writing prompts- students can write and reflect as part of their writing workshop or “seat work” at the beginning of the day

4. Character education

Reading Workshop Gingerbread Unit

Reading Workshop- Are you ready to rock your reading workshop…gingerbread style??

Do you already have reading workshop up and running in your classroom? Do you have a classroom full of rockin’ readers that are ready to have their reading workshop kicked up a notch…gingerbread style???

If so, this is the unit for you! Grab a copy of The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, by Laura Murray. This beautiful picture book will serve as the mentor text for this RW unit of study. There are 20 comprehension based mini-lessons that are included in this file. All mini-lessons are written in the reading workshop daily lesson plan template, which will explicitly outline what the teacher is saying. This file will teach you how to set up your mini-lessons and help you keep your reading workshop mini-lessons truly “mini,” which can be challenging to do!

There is an abundance of colorful anchor charts, which will provide you with a powerful way to support what you are teaching during your mini-lessons.

The mini-lessons in this unit are aligned with ELA common core standards, for grades 1-5. (The standards that apply for this unit is listed by grade level in the file!)

Kindness for Kids in the Classroom, Community, and School Setting!

Are you inspired to teach your students about the true meaning of the holiday season- the importance of kindness and service towards others?

I created the unit because the group of students I have this year really need explicit examples of kindness in action. I wanted to create meaningful and authentic lessons so my students could experience the benefits from small and simple acts of kindness. I was absolutely amazed with how excited my group of students were to perform these acts of kindness!

There are unique lessons and activities that are introduced and over 85 pages total in this unit. Please make sure you download the file preview to see a sample image of each act of kindness and lesson.

The ideas presented in this unit are perfect for the month of December, where students are encouraged to participate in acts of kindness in their community, school, and classroom.
