Creative Writing-Reason for the Season

Put your creative writing skills to the test! This writing lesson uses the students creative writing skills, while celebrating the reason for the holiday season! What is the reason for the season? Showing appreciation for all the hard working staff members in our school! In this file, students shower the staff members in their school with letters of appreciation. File includes cover pages for different staff members in a school setting, both in color and black and white. There are also several templates for students to write their letter of appreciation. Your students will LOOOVE delivering these sweet messages of appreciation and your co-workers will LOOOVE receiving them! :)

And we are celebrating this season by surprising staff members! Every morning for the past two weeks, I had this on the Smartboard:

I would then introduce the next staff member that we would be writing a thank you letter to. Staff members included everyone from the custodian to the principal. creative writing

Before we started writing to a new staff member everyday, I gave a few writing mini-lessons. One lesson, for example, was how to write a sincere greeting, such as, “It’s a pleasure to write why this principal is a gift to our school.”

Not every student wrote about every staff member, or we would have had to start writing our letters back in October! Instead, I introduced a group of teachers, such as the lunch/recess teachers, and then the students chose one person that they have a connection with.

Students write a sincere letter of appreciation for the impact the staff member makes in their life at school. After coloring the cover pages, we bind the pages into a book. I then place a bow on the class book or place the class book inside Santa’s stocking, all ready to be delivered!

In what ways do your students recognize the hard work and their appreciation of the staff members? I would love to hear your ideas! The first two people who comment about their idea will get this file for free! Smile If you want to use this idea with your students, check it out in my TpT store by clicking HERE on the picture below! creative writing
