Classroom Library Stick Holders

Two years ago, I blogged about how I made this craft for my classroom decor: classroom decor I LOOOVED have this craft on my windowsill in my classroom!!!READ craftThat is…until we had a torrential rainstorm and the water came into my classroom, through the window, thus completely ruining my cute little READ letters. Needless to say, remaking this little craft has been on my to do list for a long time. So, when Michaels contacted me about crafting for the classroom, I jumped at the opportunity!!!! I was so excited to see the new Washi Tape products in all the cute designs and colors!! I found a huge bin that had the tape on sale, for less than a dollar each!!!! I bought about 5 different styles, the white wooden letters, and an Exacto Knife.classroom decor 6I started to randomly place the tape on the front side of each letter. IT IS SO EASY TO USE!!!! It is TAPE after all!!! It was so much easier to use this Washi Tape instead of the scrapbook paper that I used for this project a few years ago.5It took less then 10 minutes to cover all the letters with the tape! I then took my Exacto knife and trimmed the tape around the corners of the letters.4I then put two coats of Mod Podge on top of the letters and let it dry, which took about an hour.3  And here is the finished project!!!! I would LOVE to show you what this would look like in my classroom, but I can’t get into my classroom with summer school!!READ craftFor my next project, I made classroom library stick holders! I bought five of the most adorable styles and colors of duct tape at Michaels and then went to Home Depot for ask them for 30 wooden paint sticks. They had NO problem just giving me thirty, even though I offered to pay for them, because the lady behind the counter was a social worker and she obviously had a soft spot in her heart for teachers!read craftI covered one side with duct tape and then folded the tape over the paint stick. I then flipped the paint stick over and covered the other side of it with the tape.classroom library stick holdersI then used a sturdy tape to attach the numbers onto the library sticks, like so:classroom library stick holdersEach student has a number in my class and that number correlates to the number of their classroom library stick. When the student takes a book from the classroom library, then they just place the library stick in the spot they took the book from! Since this is such a cheap project, I can easily give my students more than one library stick, which they will need because I allow my students to have up to three of the classroom library books inside of their book nook.classroom library stick holdersI then used my Washi tape again to decorate the LARGE coffee mug that I got for $9.99 at Michaels.classroom library stick holdersI glued the “Classroom Library Stick Holders” label on the front of the mug and this project was complete!!! Smile classroom library stick holdersAfter an hour trip to Michaels and a couple of hours working on these projects, here is my finished project:classroom library stick holders Are you able to use these circle numbers to make your own classroom library holders? I sure hope so!!!Slide1

  1. Oh my gosh!! I've been dreading doing my READ letters because I didn't want to haul out paint or scrapbook paper. Covering them with washi tape is GENIUS!!! Thank you for the idea! :)

  2. Love the idea! I used pop sticks to pick students randomly for reading. Your craft will be used with numbers as you did so I do not have remake them every year.

    Thanks again, Listheteach
