Thanksgiving Homework for the Teacher!

Do you still have your school pictures from when YOU were in elementary school!??! You know, those embarrassing photos from the days that you modeled your clothing and hair after Punky Bruster? (I loved her!!!) Are they probably hidden deep down in some storage bin or a messy closet at your parents house??

Well, when you are are celebrating Thanksgiving at your parents house next Thursday, ask them if they kept your school pictures. Go dig them out of storage! Find the class picture from the grade that you are currently teaching! Then, go and find a frame to put that classic photograph in! Bring it to school after Thanksgiving break and let your students have some fun finding out what their teacher looked like when they were in elementary school!
Thanksgiving Homework for the Teacher!
I recently met up with a friend of mine since I have known since Kindergarten. We had the same teachers for almost every grade up through high school! She now teaches second grade in another school district and I teach third grade. Since we were both in the same classroom for second and third grade, I enlarged the pictures and placed them in a frame.
Thanksgiving Homework for the Teacher!
Our students loved to see what their teacher looked like when they were in elementary school!!! Since our class picture did not list our names, the students really did have to guess which picture was ours! They really thought it was funny to see how clothing styles and hairstyles have changed GREATLY since the 80’s!!! Even though I was a tad bit worried that I might get some “not so nice” comments about my picture…they had nothing but nice things to say! Smile

  1. I have done something similar to this before and the kids loved it. I have also brought in school work from when I was in elementary school that my parents had saved. My students love it when I read a story I had written when I was their age. I honestly think my kiddos are much better writers than I was! Happy Thanksgiving! :)
