Spring Craft

We thought that you would never come!!!

It’s amazing what excitement a little bottle of this can do:

Even for big third graders!!!
With yesterday being the first official day of spring, we wrote about what signs of spring we are observing outside: birds chirping, kids playing outside, more daylight, grass getting greener, flowers and trees starting to bud, warmer weather, or like we experienced last night…thunderstorms!!!

Students then began to make their own cherry blossom tree, getting their inspiration for this picture here:

We cracked open that big bottle of brown paint and they started with the branches.

Students then used pink, white, and reddish tissue paper to make the “blossoms.” They cut their own squares out of the tissue paper and then wrapped the tissue paper around the eraser of a pencil. They dabbed the tissue in a plate of liquid glue and “stamped” the tissue on their branch.

We took down our leprechauns and put up our Signs of Spring!

FYI…I also talked to my students about how cherry blossoms are indigenous to Japan and the word SAKURA means cherry blossom. :)

We hope you enjoyed this project as much as we did and we also hope that you are observing signs of spring in your neck of the woods!
